The Reno Blues Society is celebrating its 30th year with Alligator Records recording artists Rick Estrin and The Nightcats on Saturday, May 20 at Boomtown Casino. Doors will open at 6pm and Jason King and friends will do a short opening set about 6:15. Rick Estrin and the Nightcats will take the stage at 7:30 and perform two sets.
Headlining the show are long-time blues artists Rick Estrin and the Nightcats, who were last year’s blues band of the year by the Blues Foundation and feature nominees for this year’s Blues Foundation awards in guitarist Kid Andersen for guitarist of the year and in drummer Derrick “D’Mar” Martin for drummer of year. Keyboardist Lorenzo Farrell completes the quartet.
Currently on a European tour, Rick Estrin and Nightcats have been touring for over 35 years. The band, formerly known as Little Charlie and the Nightcats, performed for the Reno Blues Society in spring 1996 at their spring dance.

The Reno Blues Society has been ‘Keeping the Blues Alive’ in Northern Nevada for 30 years with the help of many volunteers. The non-profit organization hosts several live music events each year to raise funds. Proceeds from the 30th Anniversary Celebration will benefit RBS music grants program which includes local music student grants and sponsorship of local blues events including Tuesday Bluesday at Palisades Tahoe. The society’s mission is to preserve Blues history, celebrate, excellence, support blues education and to ensure the future of this uniquely American art form. The RBS tax ID number is 80-0016293.
